Our Mission, vision, philosophy, and other ramblings...

Arizona Soap Creek is an artisanal soap company specializing in handcrafted, plant-based, and environmentally friendly soaps and sundries. Our soaps are made using the traditional cold-process method, which preserves the natural benefits of ingredients, resulting in a nourishing and cleansing lather.

We create each soap in small batches using premium ingredients, including vegetable oils, butters, essential oils, phthalate-free fragrance oils, herbs, spices, and skin-safe, mineral-based colorants. In an effort to reduce our impact on the environment, we utilize biodegradable and recyclable packaging whenever possible. Our mission is to advance sustainable and eco-conscious practices and offer healthy, nourishing, and moisturizing soaps and sundries inspired by the natural beauty of the Southwest to everyone.

Handmade is Better

Arizona Soap Creek soaps are made using the cold process soap making technique which, simply, combines melted fats (vegetable oils) with lye (sodium hydroxide) to create a chemical reaction called saponification, otherwise known as soap!

Our handmade cold processed soaps contain glycerin, a natural by-product of the soap making process, which helps draw moisture to the skin. In addition, we use a technique called super-fatting where extra beneficial oils, such as jojoba, wheatgerm, Vitamin E, or sweet almond oil (to name a few), are added at the end of the soap batch and suspended in the soap as it hardens. Super-fatting the soap in this way creates an emollient soap bar that helps your skin retain moisture.

Our Namesake

Arizona Soap Creek is located in the beautiful mountain town of Flagstaff, Arizona – the gateway to the Grand Canyon. Northern Arizona and our community in Flagstaff is a popular destination for adventurous Grand Canyon and Colorado River travelers who travel from around the world explore the area on foot and by boat.

The company’s name is inspired by a regional canyon and creek that flows into the Colorado River in the Grand Canyon, creating a famous white water rapid called Soap Creek. Legend has it that the creek got its name in the 1870s when Jacob Hamblin, a renowned scout, caught a badger near the creek and cooked it in a kettle of water to make stew. The next morning, the kettle was full of soap! The fat from the badger had combined with the alkaline (lye) water from the creek, creating soap suds. To this day, the canyon, creek and white water rapid are all known as Soap Creek.
